How to make your research more visible and accessible: publication strategy and ethical aspects
Learning objectives
This session intends to give you the knowledge, the tools and the methods to make your research more visible on the web:
- Why you should deposit your articles or thesis in open access in terms of ethics and visibility
- How to use institutional signature, permanent identifiers and CV to get more visibility
- What are the interest of social networks for the researcher's visibility …
- What is the context of scientific publication in Open Access
- How to identify the offers of predatory publishers in open access
- How to Resist the common abuses in scientific publication
The workshop will focus on the dissemination and publication of research results in Open Access. The trainers will discuss the ethical obligation to provide the most open access possible to research results while remaining within the legal framework. They will also look at the institutional incentives for depositing or publishing these results in open access. In particular, we will look at the role of HAL as a server of pre- or post-print versions.
After a brief overview of open access publication (hybrid publishers, open access publication by research institutions), the speakers will indicate certain criteria for identifying predatory publishers.
The methods of promoting research will then be discussed (digital identity of the researcher, networking, communication during research)
Finally, some abuses frequently observed in terms of scientific publication will be discussed.
We will also discuss the different ways in which a researcher can be present as such on the web: the benefits of an activity on social networks, the interest of keeping a blog to communicate the state of his or her current research. We will also mention the role of the institutional signature of articles in the visibility of research work.
